So in my infinite wisdom I decided to move today and rented a uhaul this morning. Trying to get as much done as possible I'm moving the fridge on the appliance dolly down the stairs in my front yard to my street parked uhaul where my annoying neighbor's kid's girlfriend who keeps parking too close so I can't even get the ramp all the way out and mounted flush. I pull the fridge up the ramp and try to carry a little speed to get it over the lip.
Did I mention it's snowing? Because it's fucking snowing. As I get the dolly over the lip and a bit into the back of the uhaul I slip on the snow and the whole thing comes down on top of me.
Thank God for that dolly though. It propped up the fridge enough that it didn't crush me, although my wife stricken with pneumonia got a surge of adrenaline and started lifting the whole thing off me.
Crazy frickin' weekend to be moving.

The Fridge just wanted some lovin'. It IS Valentine's Day, after all.

glad you lived to tell the tale. Finished moving for today, I hope?

Its good you didn't get hurt. Those things can be seriously heavy.

Till death do us part.

Unfortunately no. I don't have a huge house though so hopefully I'll get most of it done tonight.

I almost fell of the ladder trying to clear some of the fucked up amounts of snow which has accumulated on my roof. It woulda sucked

That would suck balls. I was really lucky too. I had to tell my wife I was ok and she could quit auditioning for wonder woman.

Be careful friend. Nasty weather it looks like.

Ow. So does that mean there is actually at least one advantage to European-size fridges?
"my annoying neighbor's kid's girlfriend who keeps parking too close"
That makes me wonder two things. One, why don't you ask her to move her car a bit? Or failing that, nudge it out the way with the Uhaul. Two, why don't you offer the kid a few bucks to help you move the heavy stuff?

She didn't get a camera before helping. It's Love

I've been closing the door to the uhaul and sweeping what gets in. I just hadn't swept that side because that's where the dolly was laying. Needless to say it's been swept now.

I like my neighbors. I hate their kids.

So why do you have a problem with dropping a fridge on one of them? :)

Its good to live another day.

The fridge that rolled on top of you wasn't named Rick by any chance, was it?
Glad you're ok.

Good luck with the remaining bit and hopefully no more incidents occur. If I remember right you are in Ohio as well? Things have died down in Beavercreek/Kettering area, hopefully they have where you are as well.

Hahaha, I guess that's karma.

Yeah, I'm in Chillicothe. You couldn't see more than a block away earlier but now it's just windy and cold. I swept all my steps and salted them earlier to be as proactive about the ice as possible.

That's just the universe's way of making things right after the Miata configurator.

I work in New Carlisle, all morning and late afternoon we were getting near white out conditions some points. I couldn't see the CVS across from my store for a solid 10 minutes at one point.
I've got family in Chillicothe/Washington CH and I know they were having a rough go on their ranches earlier.

Now you can name that fridge Christine.

That's some scary shit, man. My buddy and I had to move a gigantic fridge up two flights of stairs last year, I was nervous as hell.

sheeeeeeet! Dude be careful :'(

This is clearly nature's payback for the MX-5 prank earlier.

Dang, that looks really cold.

I helped my brother move today. 8- noon. 12 people 16' truck, I big load then scattered stuff from either grandparents houses.

You're not the first person to suggest that.

Yeah it was nuts for a little bit. Honestly at night now that the snow and wind has died down it seems nicer.
![]() 02/14/2015 at 19:51 |

Normally it's not that bad. Snow is not something I've encountered while using an appliance dolly before.

3rd person to suggest that.

It's pretty bitterly cold up here if you're walking around outside. Not as gusty, but still enough consistent breeze to feel like you're in a huge walk-in freezer turned to the Antarctic setting. How goes the moving?
![]() 02/14/2015 at 20:01 |

It was bad for our area but we're on the southern edge of the rustbelt so it could be a lot worse. just a little further north.

Man I wish I had that many people to fill my truck. It's just me and my sickly wife.

Most of the big stuff done. Washer and dryer and a couple tables and a queen size bed and the rest is little stuff. I have until the end of the month to be out so the main concern is getting everything that requires a uhaul this weekend.

Dammit.

We used a Pack Rat (Cheaper version of a PODs) last time we moved. Best. Decision. Ever. No Ramps or anything, it layed flush in our driveway and we just rolled stuff in and played Tetris to fill it top to bottom front to back. I suggest them next time.
Best part was not worrying about driving it to the new location. They did it for us.. Worst part was he couldn't get it all the way into the driveway at the new place because of communication wires connecting from poles to houses, but somehow the dude did it. It was great.

Sounds like you're well on your way to being done. Here's hoping the rest of your move is uneventful.

... but you're moving.
